MRFF funding to develop drugs to treat schizophrenia

Griffith researchers  Dr. Alex Cristino, Professor Emeritus Alan Mackay-Sim, and  Professor Vicky Avery – Head of Discovery Biology have been awarded $1,425,156.50 from the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) to develop new drugs to treat schizophrenia using patient derived stem cells. Professor Vicky Avery’s team will develop new image based assays to screen FDA-approved drugs against patient stem cell lines, with the objective to find those that restore cellular functions back to normal. Therapeutic Innovation Australia (TIA) voucher scheme 2022-23 is now open

The first round of Pipeline Accelerator 2022-23 is now open: applications close 28th October 2022, 5pm (AEST). The Bridge Program 2022 – networks to successfully commercialise new pharmaceuticals.

The Bridge program was launched in 2017 to help researchers and life science entrepreneurs to connect with industry leaders in the Australian biotech ecosystem. The official program launch was on the 12th of April 2022 in Sydney. Cancer Therapeutics CRC / Canthera Discovery, of which Discovery Biology has been a founding member since 2007, received the Cooperative Research Australia (CRA) Excellence in Innovation Award for Research Commercialisation at Parliament House in Canberra on the 31st of March, 2022.
